LASTMA explores technology partnership with Chinese Consulate to improve Lagos traffic
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has initiated discussions with the Chinese Consulate in Lagos to establish a strategic partnership focused on advanced traffic management technology. A delegation led by LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki met with Consul General Yan Yuqing to explore ways to address the growing mobility challenges in the Lagos megacity.
Bakare-Oki highlighted the need for sophisticated, technology-driven solutions to manage increasing vehicular populations and commercial activities. The proposed collaboration aims to deploy Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), real-time traffic monitoring, smart surveillance, artificial intelligence, and data-driven enforcement.
The agency seeks to leverage international expertise and technological knowledge from Chinese institutions to improve congestion control, incident management, and road-user engagement. Additionally, the initiative emphasizes the importance of professional development and knowledge transfer to ensure LASTMA personnel are equipped to operate these new systems effectively.
