LASTMA impounds 84 vehicles during Lagos traffic crackdown
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) impounded 84 commercial and private vehicles during a weekend enforcement operation across Idumota, Iddo, Ijora-Olopa, Costain, and Onipanu.
The crackdown targeted various traffic violations, specifically focusing on commercial buses reversing against the flow of traffic on the one-way stretch from Iddo to Idumota via Cater Bridge. General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki warned that such actions create hazardous conditions for motorists and pedestrians, increasing the risk of collisions and fatalities.
During the operation, LASTMA reported that some individuals resisted enforcement, resulting in the assault of officers and damage to agency vehicles. Several suspects were arrested in connection with these attacks. The agency also reiterated its stance against the illegal use of road setbacks and under-bridge spaces as unauthorized garages, noting that such practices obstruct traffic management and compromise public safety.
