Lata Mangeshkar's close relationship with Narendra Modi

The late legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar maintained a close, familial relationship with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Known as ‘Lata Didi’, she was a prolific artist who recorded thousands of songs in over 36 languages and received the Bharat Ratna in 2001.

Beyond her musical achievements, Mangeshkar was active in politics, serving as a member of the Rajya Sabha from 1999 to 2005 following support from the Bharatiya Janata Party. She was a vocal supporter of Modi, whom she affectionately referred to as ‘Narendra Bhai’.

In her foreword to the book ‘Modi@20: Dreams Meet Delivery’, Mangeshkar described her perception of the Prime Minister, noting that he did not fit the mold of a traditional politician. She characterized him as a leader driven by purpose and a desire to serve the people of India rather than a pursuit of power.
