Latacunga citizens campaign for community dog protection

In Latacunga, Cotopaxi, a citizen-led campaign is gathering signatures to support the protection of community dogs and promote responsible pet ownership. The initiative, driven by the Animal Help Foundation, aims to raise awareness regarding animal welfare and the distinction between community animals and those with owners.

The campaign follows recent concerns regarding the alleged aggressiveness of dogs in public spaces. Daniela Zúñiga, founder of Animal Help, noted that investigations suggested a reported aggression incident involved a dog with an owner rather than a community animal. Organizers are advocating for concrete actions, including sterilization and abandonment prevention, to address the issue.

To support these efforts, the foundation is developing a digital platform for virtual participation and selling merchandise to fund sterilization programs.
