Latacunga implements tourism agenda and airport revitalization

The Municipality of Latacunga is implementing a strategic agenda to boost tourism and economic activity through cultural events and improved connectivity. To celebrate World Tourism Day, the local Tourism Directorate has organized activities for September and October, including the Mama Negra festivities on September 23 and 24, and celebrations at the El Salto Market in early October.

To support these events, the municipality is coordinating with tour operators from provinces such as Manabí to manage visiting groups. The initiative also includes practical training for the hospitality and gastronomic sectors, focusing on service standards and presentation.

Simultaneously, Mayor Fabricio Tinajero is working to revitalize commercial operations at the Cotopaxi airport. In collaboration with Maxitravel and Aeroregional, the project aims to reintroduce flights to international destinations like Panama and Punta Cana, as well as domestic routes to Guayaquil, Lago Agrio, and Esmeraldas. While airport administration remains a state responsibility, the municipality intends to provide logistical support, facilitate permits, and promote the city as a travel hub to benefit local commerce, industry, and employment.
