LATAM aircraft runs off runway in Cascavel, Brazil
A LATAM Airlines Airbus A320 carrying 151 people, including 145 passengers and six crew members, ran off the runway during landing at Cascavel Regional Airport in Paraná, Brazil, on Monday morning. The aircraft, registration PR-MYO, had arrived from Guarulhos International Airport in São Paulo.
The incident occurred around 09:45 local time amidst heavy rain and thunderstorms. The aircraft left the paved surface during the final stage of landing and became stuck in a muddy area adjacent to the runway. Despite the excursion, all occupants disembarked safely, and no injuries were reported.
As a result of the incident, the airport was temporarily closed to all flight operations. LATAM canceled the scheduled return flight, LA3859, from Cascavel to Guarulhos, and is relocating affected passengers through Foz do Iguaçu.
The Aeronautical Accident Investigation and Prevention Center (Cenipa) has initiated an investigation to determine the exact causes of the excursion. Specialized equipment was deployed to remove the aircraft from the mud.
