LatAm-FINGERS Study Finds Multidimensional Lifestyle Improves Memory in Seniors
A large international trial published in The Lancet examined 1,065 adults aged 60 to 77 from eleven Latin American countries. Participants followed a multidimensional program that combined regular physical activity, balanced nutrition, cognitive stimulation, active social life, and control of cardiovascular risk factors. The intervention led to a 55 % improvement in cognitive test performance compared with a control group, demonstrating that the aging brain retains plasticity when lifestyle factors are addressed together. The researchers emphasized that the result reflects better cognitive function, not a direct reduction in Alzheimer’s disease risk.
The study, named LatAm‑FINGERS, is one of the most extensive trials on cognitive decline prevention in the region and provides concrete guidance for millions of older adults seeking to preserve memory and reasoning abilities through combined healthy habits.
