Late Augustus Akhabue Aikhomu Foundation seeks partnership with Nigerian government for new 62‑bed Edo medical centre

The Late Augustus Akhabue Aikhomu Foundation has asked the Federal Government of Nigeria to enter a public‑private partnership to operate a newly completed 62‑bed medical centre in Idumu‑Iyase, Ewatto, Edo State. The foundation’s board, led by Chairman Chief Dr Leemon Ikpea, presented the proposal to Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare Professor Muhammad Ali Pate in Abuja, proposing that a federal health institution manage the hospital while ownership remains with the foundation.

The facility includes male, female and paediatric wards, operating theatres, an accident‑and‑emergency unit, diagnostic services such as X‑ray and CT‑scan, and supporting infrastructure like ambulances and a standby power supply. The foundation has invited the health minister to the official launch and commissioning of the centre, scheduled for 20 October 2026 at the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, where the biography of the late Admiral Augustus Akhabue Aikhomu will also be presented.
