Late rainfall in India offers hope for Rabi season despite Kharif crop losses

Recent rainfall across parts of India, including the Umarga revenue circle and the Rayalaseema region, has provided some relief following prolonged dry spells, though the impact on agriculture remains mixed.

In Umarga, the revenue circle recorded 83 mm of rain, the highest for the current monsoon season. While this has revived hopes for the upcoming Rabi season by replenishing dried-up water bodies, the Kharif season has already suffered significant losses. Farmers reported that soybean and other crops were damaged by intense heat and lack of water during their growth stages, with production levels dropping to approximately 10 to 15 percent.

In the Rayalaseema region, moderate to heavy rains hit districts such as YSR Kadapa and Kurnool. In Kurnool, heavy showers caused waterlogging in low-lying areas of Adoni and Nandyal. While the rain may assist farmers using borewell irrigation for paddy or improve fodder availability for livestock, many farmers expressed that the showers arrived too late to save crops that had already withered due to the previous dry spell.
