Latimer Rooftop venue ordered to pay $4,365 after wedding cancellation
A bride has been awarded a $4,365 judgment by the B.C. Civil Resolution Tribunal after her wedding venue, Latimer Rooftop in Langley, cancelled her booking. The venue was found to have been operating without a business license, leading the Township of Langley to order its closure in 2024.
The bride had originally booked the venue in late 2023 for a September 2024 wedding at a cost of $3,412.50. Although the operating company refunded a $1,706.25 deposit, the sudden closure forced the bride to secure a last-minute replacement venue costing $7,350.
The legal claim was brought against the operating company and Vesta Properties, which shares the same building. However, the tribunal's adjudicator, Andrea Ritchie, dismissed the claim against Vesta Properties, ruling the firm was not a party to the contract.
