International Beer Day Spurs Global Industry Growth and Celebration

International Beer Day is observed each year on the first Friday of August. The holiday began in 2007 in Santa Cruz, California, and now takes place in more than 80 countries and over 200 cities worldwide.

The event highlights the economic weight of the beer sector. In Mexico the industry supports over 715,000 direct and indirect jobs and contributes about 1.5% of national GDP, while also accounting for roughly 1.3% of the GDP of Latin America and the Caribbean. Production and sales fell 3‑4% in 2025, and exports dropped 4.8% in early 2026, prompting Heineken and Grupo Modelo to announce multi‑billion‑dollar investment plans.

Chile’s per‑capita consumption rose from 30 L in 2005 to 52 L in 2025, a 73 % increase. The Chilean beer industry employs about 179,000 people and adds roughly 1.6 % of the country’s GDP. AB InBev Chile’s campaign “Activemos el Encuentro” aims to revive local bars and neighborhoods.

In Argentina, beer remains a cultural staple for football matches, barbecues and concerts, with a growing interest in non‑alcoholic varieties. The sector’s relevance is reinforced by local producers such as Cervecería Quilmes.

Across Latin America, the beer market generated about US$88.7 billion in regional GDP in 2025, and the non‑alcoholic segment grew 10.4 % that year, outpacing the global average.
