Latin American artists in Chile protest economic blockade against Cuba
Latin American artists gathered in Santiago, Chile, to celebrate Cuban Culture Day and express solidarity with Cuba regarding the ongoing economic, commercial, financial, and energy blockade. During a concert at the Teatro Municipal de San Joaquín, performers including Chilean singer-songwriter Cecilia Concha Laborde and Brazilian composer Kátya Teixeira highlighted the humanitarian impact of current restrictions.
Organizers, including the José Martí Chilean-Cuban Cultural Institute, emphasized the role of women in the Cuban Revolution and criticized the intensification of energy restrictions. Additionally, the association Raíces Cubanas issued an official declaration stating that recent executive orders imposing tariffs and sanctions on petroleum supplies to the island constitute an act of aggression. The association argued that these measures severely restrict access to vital resources, disproportionately affecting vulnerable populations such as the elderly and the sick.
