Latin American athletes target Los Angeles 2028 Olympics

Mexican wrestler Bertha Rojas and Dominican sprinter Estrella de Aza are both focusing their training efforts on qualifying for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

Rojas recently met with Rommel Pacheco, director of Mexico’s National Commission for Physical Culture and Sport (CONADE), to discuss her career trajectory and the challenges of high-performance athletics. She highlighted the mental and physical toll of training, including the difficulty of being away from home, but emphasized her commitment to her sporting goals.

In the Dominican Republic, two-time Central American relay champion Estrella de Aza is preparing for the 2027 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, as a stepping stone toward the 2028 Olympics. De Aza, who has nearly a decade of experience in athletics, noted that her recent successes in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays serve as a new starting point for her pursuit of continental excellence.
