Latin American cinema gains momentum at European film festivals

Latin American filmmakers are receiving significant economic support and recognition at major European film festivals. At the San Sebastián Film Festival, productions from Colombia, El Salvador, and Argentina secured funding to complete their projects.

Colombian director Juan Sebastián Mesa won the WIP Latam award for ‘Lovers Go Home!’, which includes post-production assistance and digital distribution in Spain. El Salvador’s Tatiana Huezo received the Egeda Platino Industria award, providing 30,000 euros for her film ‘Galerna’. Additionally, the Europe-Latin America Co-production Forum awarded 30,000 euros to ‘Los Inexpertos’ by Argentine director Felipe Solari Yrigoyen.

In France, the Biarritz Amérique Latine Film Festival is hosting a special tribute to the Bogotá Short Film Festival (BOGOSHORTS). Celebrating over 20 years of work, the tribute includes dedicated programming for various audiences and a gastronomic component, strengthening the connection between Latin American short film talent and European cinematic territories.
