Latin American filmmakers honored at Brazilian film festivals

Two major film festivals in Brazil, CineBH in Belo Horizonte and EducAção in Curitiba, are hosting events this September that honor prominent Latin American filmmakers. CineBH is paying tribute to Paraguayan filmmaker Paz Encina and writer Conceição Evaristo, with a program centered on the theme “What will become of cinema? What will become of Latin America?”.

In Curitiba, the EducAção festival is honoring Peruvian filmmaker María Barea. The festival also features a session of restored animations by the Centro Técnico do Audiovisual (CTAv). Both festivals offer free programming, including film screenings, seminars, and educational activities.

CineBH is also hosting a seminar titled “Entre Cinemas – CineBH + CineMundi 2026,” which includes discussions on the growing role of women in the audiovisual sector. Participants such as producer Sara Silveira, director Tania Anaya, and actress/director Bruna Linzmeyer will participate in panels exploring female trajectories and new perspectives within the industry.
