Latin American Firms Face Rising Cybersecurity and Fraud Risks
A Logicalis report shows that 76% of Argentine companies suffered a cybersecurity incident in the past year, with malware and ransomware accounting for 42% of attacks, malicious deepfakes 32%, data breaches and phishing 26%, and AI‑driven attacks 24%. Executives say employees using uncontrolled AI tools increase risk (62%) and that 70% consider staff training inadequate, while 74% lack the necessary skills. Nearly all firms (98%) have accelerated AI adoption and 70% plan to invest in generative AI, yet 96% worry about data leaks from AI vulnerabilities, and 100% cite potential financial damage.
A separate Visa study of almost 2,000 small‑ and medium‑size enterprise owners across eight Latin American and Caribbean markets (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Peru) found that 64% prioritize fraud protection and 63% prioritize data security as essential for business continuity and family stability. Owners view security as an emotional anchor, emphasizing “true peace of mind” over pure growth. The survey also highlighted limited use of digital tools and a strong link between business survival and family responsibility.
