Latin American students participate in international aerospace programs

Catalina Beltrán Álvarez, a student from Sogamoso, Colombia, is set to attend the Space Academy Camp at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida in November 2026. Her selection follows a first-place win at the RoboRAVE international open in California and success with a low-cost artificial skin project using artificial intelligence. Beltrán Álvarez aims to pursue aerospace engineering through international scholarships.

Guatemalan student Natalia Renée Lemus Cruz recently completed the AST101: Fundamentals of Astronautics program in the United States. After winning the AGICE Space Hackathon, Lemus Cruz underwent training in aerospace physiology and hypobaric chamber testing alongside participants from Japan, Italy, Canada, and the United Kingdom. The program was facilitated by the International Institute of Astronomical Sciences (IIAS) and the Guatemalan Association of Engineering and Space Sciences (AGICE).
