Latin American Theater Day celebrated on October 8
October 8 marks Latin American Theater Day, a date commemorating the first edition of the Manizales Latin American Festival held in Colombia in 1968. The observance was promoted by the Latin American Center for Theater Creation and Research (CELCIT) to foster exchange and integration among regional scenic expressions.
In honor of the day, the Argentine Association of Actors and Actresses issued a message celebrating the theater's role in telling local stories and building community across borders. Brazilian playwright and director Aimar Labaki contributed a text titled ‘Teatro – el milagro cotidiano’ (Theater – the daily miracle), dedicated to Aderbal Freire Filho. Labaki describes theater as a vital counterpoint to a world increasingly dominated by virtuality and algorithms, emphasizing the importance of physical presence and human dialogue.
