Latin American theatre festivals spotlight experimental works in Argentina and Peru
The night‑time production "El alma de la noche" will be staged at Buenos Aires' Teatro Ñaca in 2026, featuring a cast that includes Bianca Vicari and Valentín Born Pinto. Directed by Sebastián Bauzá and written by Blanca Bardagil, the play blends black comedy with unsettling themes that explore hidden tensions in everyday life. Tickets are sold through TicketsGo.
From 16 to 27 June, the 12th Festival Escena Sur takes place at the Centre for Innovation in the Arts (CEIA) of the Universidad Científica del Sur in Lima Norte, Peru. The festival presents works that address terror as social critique, gender roles, artificial intelligence and freedom of belief. Highlights include "Quiero saber dónde me encuentro" on gender identity, "Cristofer" on religious freedom, and "El cielo se pixeló" envisioning a world without energy, among other productions by emerging and established Peruvian artists.
