Latin music icons Celia Cruz and Omara Portuondo receive major honors

The Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame will posthumously present the Legacy Award to the iconic Cuban singer Celia Cruz at the 13th annual La Musa Awards in Miami. The ceremony, held at The Flamingo Theater, honors Cruz’s five-decade career and her role in bringing Afro-Cuban music and salsa to a global audience.

Producer Sergio George, who helped modernize Cruz’s sound, will also be honored at the gala. Other inductees include songwriters Yoel Henríquez, Danny Daniel, Kike Santander, Mario Quintero Lara, and Gian Marco.

In related news, legendary Cuban artist Omara Portuondo is celebrating her career with the album ‘Eternamente Omara’, produced by Roberto Fonseca. The project features collaborations with international artists such as Silvio Rodríguez, Nathy Peluso, Pablo López, and Angélique Kidjo. Portuondo expressed her hope that the album, which competes in the Best Traditional Tropical Album category, will receive a Latin Grammy as a tribute to her extensive musical journey.
