Shakira leads 2026 World Cup opening ceremony in Mexico

Colombian singer Shakira arrived in Mexico City and began rehearsals for the FIFA World Cup 2026 opening ceremony slated for 11 June at the Estadio Azteca. She will perform the official song “Dai Dai” together with Nigerian artist Burna Boy, with the duet’s full YouTube video already surpassing 100 million views. All proceeds from the track are pledged to the FIFA Education Fund, which aims to raise $100 million for global children’s education. The ceremony will feature a lineup of international and Latin artists—including Alejandro Fernández, Belinda, J Balvin, Maná, Lila Downs, Los Ángeles Azules, Danny Ocean and Tyla—and will begin 90 minutes before the inaugural match between Mexico and South Africa. The event marks the first triple‑host opening, with additional ceremonies scheduled in the United States and Canada the following day. Broadcasts will be carried by multiple TV networks and streaming platforms across the three host nations.
