Latina wildfire destroys crops and photovoltaic plant
A large-scale fire broke out on Thursday afternoon in the area between Migliara and Borgo San Michele in Latina, destroying vegetation, agricultural fields, and crops. The blaze also reached a significant photovoltaic plant used for electricity production, damaging panels and connected structures.
The fire spread rapidly through wooded areas and farmland, producing dense black smoke that prompted nearby residents to close their windows. Authorities are investigating the cause, with preliminary information suggesting the fire may have been intentionally set.
Emergency response efforts involved dozens of vehicles from the Vigili del Fuoco and various Civil Protection units, including teams from Genzano di Roma and Alfa Aprilia, to combat the extensive front and reach difficult terrain.
