Latino voters shift away from Republicans ahead of U.S. midterms

Florida Republican Senator Ileana García, a former supporter of Donald Trump, has expressed opposition to current administration immigration policies. García has criticized the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency, stating that its strategies regarding mass detentions and deportations have gone too far.

This shift reflects a broader trend regarding the Latino electorate ahead of the U.S. midterm elections. Recent polling indicates a significant move away from the Republican Party among Latino voters. An NBC News and Telemundo survey shows that 59% of Latino voters prefer Democratic control of Congress, compared to 35% favoring Republicans—a 24-point advantage. Additionally, a CBS News and YouGov poll found that 60% of Latino voters intending to vote in November favor Democratic candidates, while 40% favor Republicans.
