Latter-day Saint leaders discuss Isaiah 50–57 study
Religious leaders and commentators are providing insights into the study of Isaiah 50–57 as part of the ‘Come, Follow Me’ curriculum.
Church leaders from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have highlighted themes of redemption and perseverance. President Dallin H. Oaks has noted that following God’s plan can lead to conflict with others, but followers are commanded to choose the Lord’s way. Sister Kristin M. Yee emphasized the power of Jesus Christ to heal the soul and provide redemption through His atoning sacrifice.
Commentary on these chapters also focuses on the concept of voluntary suffering. Analysis of Isaiah 50 suggests that the descriptions of physical suffering and humiliation depict a figure who is not a victim, but rather one who is resolute and chooses to undergo such trials through divine power.
