Latur administration implements water conservation measures
The Latur district administration has launched several initiatives to combat potential water scarcity as water levels in the Manjara dam have dropped to 9 percent.
To support rural areas, officials have acquired 256 private wells and borewells across 173 villages and hamlets within ten tehsils. The Ausa region has the highest number of acquired wells at 51, followed by Nilanga with 45 and Ahmedpur with 41.
In the city, municipal authorities are cracking down on unauthorized water connections and waste. Deputy Commissioner Dr. Punjab Khansole announced that enforcement actions against illegal connections on the main water line will begin on October 23. The administration has also implemented a tiered penalty system for water wastage: a first offense incurs a 5,000 rupee fine, a second offense 10,000 rupees, and a third offense may result in a 25,000 rupee fine and criminal charges.
