Latvia and United States deepen security partnership amid NATO eastern‑flank concerns

Latvian Prime Minister Andris Kulberg met with a historic delegation of seven U.S. House members, including Committee Chairman Ken Calvert, in Riga to reinforce bilateral security cooperation. The talks focused on deterring Russian and Belarusian threats, bolstering NATO’s eastern flank, and expanding U.S. defense‑manufacturing ties.

The United States pledged an additional $200 million to the Baltic Security Initiative through 2026, supporting Latvia’s goal of maintaining defense spending at 5 percent of GDP and hosting more U.S. troops. Both sides also discussed continued assistance for Ukraine and broader economic collaboration in energy and technology sectors.
