Latvia detains two Uzbekistan nationals for large-scale drug trafficking

Latvian State Police have detained two Uzbekistan nationals, born in 2001 and 2004, for large-scale drug trafficking. The individuals, who were residing in Latvia legally as students, were arrested on October 6 following an investigation into organized crime.

During a search of their residence in Riga, authorities seized approximately one kilogram of amphetamine and 101 packages containing various other narcotic and psychotropic substances. The investigation began in May after information was received regarding individuals using the Telegram messaging app to distribute drugs across several Latvian cities.

On October 8, a court ordered pre-trial detention for both suspects. They face criminal proceedings for the unauthorized sale of narcotic and psychotropic substances on a large scale, an offense that carries a potential prison sentence of five to 15 years.
