Latvia emergency services respond to 182 calls in three days
The State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) reported a high volume of emergency activity across Latvia between August 28 and August 31. During this 72-hour period, the service responded to a total of 182 calls, consisting of 45 firefighting operations, 89 rescue missions, and 48 false alarms.
Significant incidents included a fire in a five-story residential building in Jelgava, where rescuers used breathing masks to save ten people, while another 14 residents evacuated before emergency services arrived. In Liepāja, a two-story house caught fire, affecting 50 square meters of household goods and a 20-square-meter roof.
Other notable operations included the use of a drone to locate a person lost in the forest in Valdgale, Talsi municipality. Additionally, emergency services responded to various incidents involving vehicle fires, abandoned buildings, and a collision between a car and a train in Saldus.
