Latvia expands adult education and vocational training opportunities

The State Education Development Agency (VIAA) has announced expanded vocational training and professional development opportunities for adults across the Kurzeme and Vidzeme regions of Latvia. Through the new “Mācības reģionu iedzīvotājiem” project, residents can access training in fields such as programming, data analysis, artificial intelligence tools, and logistics management.

In the Kurzeme region, including Liepāja, Ventspils, and Saldus, courses are available in metalworking, electrical engineering, agriculture, and healthcare. In Vidzeme, specifically in Valmiera, Smiltene, and Cēsis, training focuses on construction, mechatronics, and electrical engineering. Notably, Valmiera offers a specialized mechatronic systems technician program not available in other regions.

These programs are designed to help both career changers and current professionals update their skills to match a rapidly evolving labor market. Training can be conducted through educational institutions, directly within companies, or via workplace-based mentorship.
