Latvia explores national football stadium development

Latvian officials and the Latvian Football Federation (LFF) are discussing the development of a national football stadium on the site of the Skonto Stadium. Economics Minister Viktors Valainis has expressed support for the project, which is viewed as a critical step toward hosting major international sporting events.

During a visit to Latvia, FIFA President Gianni Infantino met with LFF President Vadims Ļašenko and Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs. The discussions included a potential joint bid with Ukraine to host the FIFA U20 World Cup. Developing modern football infrastructure is considered a prerequisite for such a bid.

Provisional estimates suggest the construction of the national stadium could cost approximately 86 million euros. The LFF currently has about 11 million euros available for the project. Prime Minister Kulbergs emphasized that the project requires a public-private partnership, noting that the state cannot provide the full funding alone.
