Latvia launches road safety campaign to promote seatbelt use

The Road Traffic Safety Directorate (CSDD) has launched a new safety campaign in Latvia titled “The last journey begins without a seatbelt. Don’t break – fasten up!”. To mark the launch, a seatbelt unfastened warning signal will be broadcast across various radio stations and Circle K gas stations at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 18.

The campaign aims to emphasize the critical importance of wearing seatbelts in all vehicles to prevent severe injuries and fatalities. CSDD data reveals that in 47 serious traffic accidents in Latvia last year, 20 people died and many others sustained severe injuries because drivers or passengers failed to use seatbelts.

The initiative is organized by the CSDD in cooperation with the State Police and various strategic partners. The launch event in Riga’s Kimmel Quarter includes representatives from the Ministry of Transport, the State Police, and medical professionals, such as Dr. Svens Rubulis from the Trauma Center of the Trauma and Orthopaedics Hospital.
