Latvia men's basketball team defeats Israel in World Cup qualifier

The Latvian men's national basketball team defeated Israel 85-70 in a 2027 World Cup qualification match. This victory served as a recovery following a heavy 80-115 loss to Croatia earlier in the week.

Head coach Jānis Gailītis praised the team's defensive improvements in the second half and emphasized the importance of representing the nation. He noted that the national jersey represents something greater than the twelve players in the locker room. Gailītis specifically highlighted Artūrs Strautiņš for his performance, stating the player possesses the skill level required for the EuroLeague.

In a locker room speech, Gailītis thanked the players for their loyalty and for helping the team recover from recent difficulties, noting the importance of mutual support between the active players and those on the bench.
