Latvia passes security laws restricting travel and infrastructure influence
The Latvian Saeima has passed amendments to the National Security Law aimed at mitigating risks posed by Russia and Belarus. These legislative changes introduce travel bans for municipal deputies, preventing them from traveling to Russia and Belarus due to concerns regarding hybrid warfare and intelligence gathering by foreign special services.
Additionally, the amendments restrict individuals from Russia and Belarus from holding significant influence or participation in entities classified as Category D critical infrastructure. This category includes sectors such as food production, heating, and medicine distribution, which are vital for maintaining societal stability during emergencies or wartime. The measures are intended to protect critical infrastructure and national security from foreign interference.
