Latvia proposes law to preserve LTV and Latvijas Radio brands
The Public Electronic Mass Media Council (SEPLP) has prepared amendments to the Law on Public Electronic Mass Media and its Management to preserve the brands of Latvijas Televīzija (LTV) and Latvijas Radio. These amendments are scheduled for discussion by the Saeima Human Rights and Public Affairs Committee on October 14.
The proposed changes aim to integrate the names ‘Latvijas Radio’ and ‘Latvijas Televīzija’ into the Latvijas Sabiedriskais medijs (LSM) brand system as elements of historical and recognition value. This includes maintaining the names for linear programming, such as ‘LTV1’, ‘LTV7’, ‘Latvijas Radio 1’, ‘Latvijas Radio 2’, ‘Latvijas Radio 3 Klasika’, and ‘Latvijas Radio 5’.
The amendments specify that the preservation of these brands refers to their verbal usage and does not include historical logos, fonts, or other visual identity elements. The council stated that the project aims to ensure historical continuity, maintain professional identity, and strengthen public trust in the unified public media. The proposal has been coordinated with the LSM board and its employees.
