Latvia publishes list of companies trading with Russia and Belarus
Latvia has released its first official list of domestic companies that continue to maintain trade relations with Russia and Belarus. The directory, compiled by the Latvian Central Statistical Bureau, identifies approximately 170 firms involved in importing or exporting goods to the two neighboring countries.
The publication is intended to increase transparency regarding commercial ties during the ongoing war in Ukraine. Authorities clarified that the listed companies are not being accused of violating international sanctions; rather, they are operating in sectors that remain exempt from current trade restrictions, such as the production of food and medicine.
The initiative follows a legislative change that mandates the statistical office to process and disclose previously private tax data. To provide further context, the Bureau has also released a document allowing these companies to explain the reasons for their continued business activities with Russia and Belarus. The list is expected to be updated monthly.
