Latvia records wettest summer since 2016

Latvia experienced its wettest summer since 2016, according to data from the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre. The total precipitation for June, July, and August averaged 288 mm, which is 129% of the norm and represents the 13th highest recorded value in the country's history.

Specific regions saw historic rainfall levels. Bauska, Ventspils, and Vičakas recorded their wettest summers on record, with Vičakas reaching 395 mm. In contrast, Rēzekne saw the lowest precipitation at 198.5 mm.

A significant storm on August 22 in Kolkā recorded 103 mm of rain in a single day, marking the strongest summer storm since measurements began. This day also set a new record for average daily rainfall across Latvia at 35.2 mm. Wind speeds were slightly above normal, with gusts reaching 31 m/s in Daugavgrīva during the August 22 storm.

The average air temperature for the summer was +17.1 degrees, which is 0.4 degrees above the seasonal norm. While the highest temperature reached +33.2 degrees in Mērsrags, the number of heat records broken was the lowest in recent years, with only 12 recorded.
