Latvia Saeima election: over one‑third of candidates previously ran

In the upcoming 15th Saeima election, 1,428 individuals are standing for parliament. Agency LETA data shows at least 487 candidates – roughly a third – have also contested in earlier elections.

The party with the highest number of repeat candidates is New Unity (Jaunā Vienotība) with 51. Green and Farmers Union (ZZS) and National Alliance (NA) each have 45 repeat candidates, the United List (AS) 44, the Progressives 43, and Latvia First (LPV) 36. Several candidates have switched lists since the previous vote, with notable movements into New Unity, ZZS, AS, NA and the Progressives. Of the 100 current deputies, 81 aim to retain their seats. The election is scheduled for October.
