Apvienotais saraksts wins 15th Saeima elections in Latvia
The 15th Saeima elections in Latvia have concluded with Apvienotais saraksts (AS) securing a decisive victory. According to data from the Central Election Commission (CVK), AS received approximately 35.44% of the vote, earning 42 seats in the parliament. This result marks the highest number of seats achieved by a single political force since Latvia's restoration of independence.
Other major parties included in the new parliament are Latvija pirmajā vietā (LPV) with 13.22% of the vote and 17 seats, Suverēnā vara/Apvienība jaunlatvieši (SV/AJ) with 11.73% and 15 seats, Nacionālā apvienība (NA) with 9.09% and 11 seats, Progresīvie with 7.24% and 9 seats, and Jaunā vienotība (JV) with 6.18% and 7 seats. The Zaļo un zemnieku savienība (ZZS) failed to cross the 5% threshold, receiving 4.62% of the vote.
Voter turnout was recorded at 51.63%, which represents the lowest participation rate since 1993. The election results suggest a significant turnover in the Saeima, with approximately two-thirds of the deputies being newcomers. Political discussions are now shifting toward government formation, with AS leaders indicating a preference for a coalition framework involving NA and JV.
