Latvia State Fire and Rescue Service responds to multiple emergencies
The State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) responded to numerous emergency calls across Latvia over a 24-hour period between August 13 and August 14. During this time, the service handled dozens of incidents involving fires, rescue operations, and missing persons reports.
Notable incidents included a fire at a manufacturing facility in Dobele, where 13 people were evacuated, and a fire in Saulkrasti involving a single-story wooden building that resulted in two injuries, including one firefighter. In Riga, emergency services responded to various residential fires, including an incident where a person was rescued from an apartment following a fire caused by unattended food.
Rescue operations also included assisting a person in a boat near Lapmežciems, who was saved by locals using a jet ski before firefighters arrived. The service reported a total of 40 to 48 calls depending on the specific reporting window, covering multiple regions including Tukums, Saldus, Kuldīga, and Rēzekne.
