Latvia storm recovery: widespread power outages and infrastructure damage

Severe storms in Latvia have caused widespread disruption, including significant power outages and infrastructure damage. At the peak of the storm, approximately 277,000 Sadales tīkls customers were without electricity. In the Bauska region, a recent technological failure in the medium-voltage network left roughly 2,200 customers without power in areas including Gailīši, Īslīce, Brunāva, and Ceraukste, though service was restored within two hours.

Sadales tīkls reported that its crews repaired over 3,400 faults in a single week following the storm, a workload exceeding the total number of faults repaired in the first four months of the year. Officials noted that secondary outages can occur when fallen branches or trees continue to fall onto lines after initial repairs.

Beyond utility disruptions, the storm caused significant logistical issues. Fallen trees blocked roads and disrupted public transport, leading to individual disputes regarding employment obligations during extreme weather conditions.
