Latvia to host European Heritage Days in September 2026
Latvia will host the European Heritage Days from September 11 to 13, 2026, opening various historic buildings, religious sites, museums, and public spaces to the public. Coordinated by the National Heritage Board, the event aims to showcase sites that are typically closed or overlooked.
The theme for the 2026 program is “Cultural Heritage: Crises and Solutions,” focusing on the practicalities of conservation, repair, and the repurposing of historic structures for future generations. The program includes activities across the country, from Riga to the Latgale region in the east.
Specific highlights include restoration insights at Apriķi Manor, discussions regarding a historic warehouse in Ventspils with specialist Pēteris Blūms, and sessions on the conservation of historic organs at churches in Lestene and Bārbele. Additionally, Cesvaine Palace will feature a presentation by restorer Madara Rasiņa.
