Latvian President Andris Kulbergs has ordered an urgent investigation into the origin of transit grain passing through Latvian ports. This follows reports from Ukrainian officials, including President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, regarding a surge in grain transit from Russia and the risk that grain stolen from occupied Ukrainian territories is being moved using fraudulent Russian documentation.

Kulbergs has called for an emergency cabinet meeting to address the issue, stating that Latvia must not allow its infrastructure to serve as a corridor for the Russian war economy. Intelligence suggests Russia may attempt to export approximately 1.5 million tons of grain through Latvian ports.

In Lithuania, the State Food and Veterinary Service (VMVT) has intensified inspections at the Port of Klaipėda. Authorities seized grain samples suspected of being Ukrainian grain falsely declared as Russian. These samples are being sent to a laboratory in France for analysis, a process expected to take two to three weeks. Officials expressed concern that Russia is attempting to use Baltic infrastructure to move stolen goods under the guise of European or local products.
