Lithuania and Latvia transition to winter time
Lithuania and Latvia will transition from summer time to winter time on the night of October 24–25. In both countries, clocks will be set back by one hour at 4:00 AM, marking the beginning of shorter days and earlier sunsets.
The transition follows European Union directives, which mandate uniform time changes across member states. While there have been discussions within the EU regarding the abolition of seasonal time changes, no final decision has been reached, as member states require further impact assessments concerning economic costs, public health, and societal effects.
In Lithuania, the change occurs on the earliest possible date due to calendar specifics. Residents are reminded that while most digital devices update automatically, manual adjustments may be required for mechanical clocks, older appliances like ovens and microwaves, and certain older vehicle systems. In Latvia, the Ministry of Economics confirmed that the next transition to summer time is scheduled for March 28, 2027.
