Latvian Basketball Federation vows to fight racist abuse, will involve FIBA

Kaspars Cipruss, general secretary of the Latvian Basketball Federation (LBS), said racism and discrimination are not opinions and have no place in Latvian basketball. He highlighted a series of recent social‑media incidents in which members of the men’s national team were attacked because of skin colour or ethnic background.

Cipruss announced that LBS will not tolerate such cases, has already lodged a complaint with the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) to have the offending comments removed and to increase monitoring of digital platforms, and warned that the federation is ready to involve Latvian law‑enforcement authorities if necessary. He stressed that the national team reflects Latvia’s multicultural society and that diversity strengthens the sport.
