Latvian Center Garezers hosts traveling history exhibit

The Latvian Center Garezers in Fabius Township, near Three Rivers, Michigan, is hosting a traveling exhibit titled ‘We Are Latvian’. Presented by the American Latvian Association, the exhibit is being held at the center’s new Bērzi building.

The exhibit explores the history of the Latvian people, tracing their journey from early Baltic origins through various periods of occupation by German, Russian, and Swedish forces, their time as a Soviet Republic, and their current status as an independent nation. The display includes informational banners, supplemental videos, and interactive placards designed to provide visitors with perspectives on the historical decisions faced by Latvians throughout the years.

Liga Ejups, the marketing and communications director for Garezers, stated that the goal is to educate the public and share the immigrant story of a community that often remains overlooked in the United States.
