Latvian dance instructor detained for suspected sexual offenses against minors

Latvian State Police have detained a dance instructor, identified as Artūrs Fatjkins, born in 1996, on suspicion of committing sexual offenses against minors. The investigation began following reports on September 5 regarding the potential distribution of pornographic materials to students. Fatjkins was arrested on September 7 and placed in custody by a court on September 9.

The suspect has professional ties to various cultural projects, including the Latvian National Opera and Ballet (LNOB), where he was associated with the production of ‘Carmen’, and the children’s project ‘Ričija Rū’. While he was a guest performer for the latter, project creators stated he is not part of the current team. He also worked with the ‘Pro-X’ dance studio and previously collaborated with the ‘Panda’ studio in Dobele, a partnership that ended in May.

Police are currently gathering evidence to determine if there are further incidents and are urging parents whose children attended his classes to come forward with any information. The criminal process is being conducted under Section 162, paragraph 2 of the Criminal Law, which addresses sexual offenses against minors involving the use of authority or influence. The suspect has no prior criminal record.
