Latvian Duo Pļaviņš, Fokerots Reach Rio Beach Volleyball Semi-Finals

Latvian beach‑volleyball pair Mārtiņš Pļaviņš and Kristians Fokerots advanced to the semi‑finals of the Rio de Janeiro Elite 16 tournament, marking their third consecutive appearance at this stage. Seeded second, they defeated the Argentine team of Nicolás and Tomás Kapogrosso 2‑0 (21‑18, 21‑11) in the quarter‑finals. Their next match will be against the Austrian pair Tim Berger and Timo Hammarberg.

The duo have accumulated 900 world‑ranking points this season and earned a bronze medal at the same event in 2024, after finishing fourth the previous year. Earlier group‑stage wins included victories over Brazil, Italy and Australia, and a straight‑sets win over Israel in the round of 16.
