Latvian Football Federation to meet Riga Council on national stadium plans

The Latvian Football Federation (LFF) will hold talks with representatives of the Riga City Council in early August to decide how to proceed with a national football stadium for the capital. The meeting will consider two options: building a new stadium on the 10‑hectare Lucavsala site that the municipality handed to the federation for up to five years, or reconstructing the existing Skonto stadium after LFF signed a protocol with Adventika Group for its purchase.

Riga’s Development Committee chair, Edgars Bergholcs, has raised doubts about the Lucavsala location, pointing to limited access, reliance on a single bridge, and insufficient public‑transport connections. He stresses that any venue must be easily reachable for fans, tourists and service providers, and that economic viability will be a key criterion in the final decision.
