Latvian government assessment: Ministers operating in separate orbits

Political scientist Lelde Metla-Rozentāle has evaluated the first 100 days of Prime Minister Andris Kulberga’s government, assigning the administration a collective score between 6 and 7.

Metla-Rozentāle noted that while Kulberga uses rhetoric to demonstrate control and understanding of current issues, several ministers appear to be operating in their own orbits rather than working toward a collective consensus. She suggested the government currently seems more focused on appealing to individual voter bases than on the common good.

Specific criticisms were directed at Economy Minister Viktors Valains for describing the government as technical, which the scientist viewed as a critique of his own cabinet. Interior Minister Jānis Dombravs was noted for his high-profile activity regarding illegal immigration, and Education Minister Ilze Indriksones's proposed reforms were described as surprising to all involved parties, potentially hindering cooperation.

Despite these internal frictions, the political scientist highlighted that Kulberga brings an energy to Latvian politics that has been long absent, creating an impression of progress.
