Latvian government prioritizes budget planning and fiscal solutions
The Latvian coalition government has announced that upcoming weeks will be heavily focused on addressing state budget priorities and fiscal solutions. Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs stated that the Cabinet of Ministers will review a report from the Bank of Latvia regarding the economic situation in the context of the budget. A thematic meeting is scheduled for September 29 to discuss financial scenarios and decisions that the next government will inherit.
While some coalition members, such as Arvils Ašeradens, expressed confidence that the budget preparation process will advance significantly, others raised concerns. Economy Minister Viktors Valainis criticized the current progress, noting a persistent budget deficit of approximately 400 million euros and a lack of concrete proposals to reduce it. Additionally, Interior Minister Jānis Dombrava emphasized the importance of providing clarity on budget procedures and the government's overall financial vision before upcoming elections to ensure transparency for society and various economic sectors.
